I think in the OPs case it's not so bad because they will be at a campground and can plug in, but that also makes me wonder why not just turn on an air conditioner and guarantee there's somewhere cool for the pets and not have to worry about it. If things go wrong a couple times a day is plenty enough time to come back to a deceased pet. Temperatures can rise crazy fast in a vehicle under normal circumstances. Maybe you are parked close enough to do a physical check a couple times a day a nice boring black and white, shows up well in sunlight e-ink screen. I don't think that's true at all if it's an e-ink screen. Less likely if it's actually embedded into the vehicle in such a way that it looks like it'd require a crow-bar or other tools to remove. Maybe if it's just a free-standing monitor screen. Unless you've got a reeeeally impressive lithium battery setup, in which case, YAY AC. Side note: I think it's important to go overkill on battery powered fan ventilation when you've got pets involved. Kind-of like the Tesla's do when you set them in that mode. We don't have a great solution yet, but we're thinking something that involves a screen that's very visible to people from the outside that shows the current internal temperature. Even if you've done everything right, and your doggo couldn't possibly overheat, there will still be those people who are "OMG DOG IN VEHICLE = DEATH" even if it's below freezing outside who will either make a stink or try and "rescue" your dog by breaking the window. If you've already got a hotspot / wifi router for your bus, any wifi temperature monitor + wifi camera will work great. How do you want to handle network connectivity? If you want to monitor remotely, you'll need a data hookup.
